Many people think that learning to speak the Japanese language is more difficult than learning to write Japanese. But it's really not, because they are the symbol of Japan 3 different kanji, hiragana and katakana, if you want to learn to write Japanese.
Normally, many Westerners think that kanji symbol which is the way we use only written in Japanese. It is true that we use kanji symbols more than hiragana or katakana symbols when writing something in Japanese. However, unlike the Chinese who use only Kanji symbols, mix all the scripts in Japan.
So when you need to use the script? The answer depends on a type of prayer used. In general, most Japanese textbooks that says the hiragana symbol is used when a word can not be written in Kanji symbols and Katakana symbol is used mainly to represent foreign words or names that adopted in the Japanese writing system.
However, it is not always the case.
By eg "thanks" in Japanese is "A Ri Ga U". Normally, you type the word in hiragana symbol, but a formal letter, you must use kanji symbol. Even if it is ok to use the katakana symbols to write "thank you" in Japanese, many Japanese would not.
If you travel in Japan you will see how to use each of the Japanese Kanji symbols, Hiragana and Katakana symbols
For example, Japanese Magazine normally use 80% of Kanji symbols, and 10% of the hiragana and katakana symbols.
Another case is the singboard in a meter. Almost all songs are written Kanji symbols. By the way, we can write numbers in kanji symbols as well, but normally use the number sign to represent.
Also, in Japanese, is changing all day. There are new Japanese words in Japanese that old people can not understand, and these words are often written by the symbol hiragana or katakana symbol.
While not appropriate in Japanese, many young Japanese people use these characters nowadays, and these words are normally abbreviated words.
Hence the inclination to write Japanese is more difficult than speaking Japanese.
